Kindly, For Your Consideration for Best Regional Roots Album. “Nor’easta” is an album of fiddle driven dance tunes and songs in the tradition of the Northeast New England Region and upper Appalachians of New York State. This fiddle tradition reaches into the Canadian provinces of Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, the migration path of my ancestors and family.
The music on this is album is a mix of American, Acadian and Celt Roots music. The music on”Nor’easta” emanates from the dance, concert, town and grange halls, parks and bars that I have performed in throughout this region for most of my professional music career.
The songs on “Nor’easta” tell the stories of traveling throughout the region bringing fiddle and song joy to venues in the Northeast to the Underground Railroad in Portland, Maine’s “Munjoy Hill”.
It can get cold up here for 6 months of the year as sung in the songs “No Way Out” and “Lament for the hopeful”. Playing and dancing with the fiddle creates much warmth in these months. By the way…horns and fiddles have always had a place together in the Nor’east repertoire. These American/Acadian/Celt Roots are in my blood, my family history and community.
